Elon Musk was born on June 28, 1971, in Pretoria, South Africa. He developed an interest in computers and entrepreneurship at a young age. Musk immigrated to the United States in the early 1990s to attend the University of Pennsylvania, where he earned degrees in physics and economics.
In 1995, Musk dropped out of a PhD program at Stanford University to pursue his entrepreneurial ambitions. He co-founded Zip2, an online city guide software company, which was later sold to Compaq for nearly $300 million.
In 1999, Musk co-founded X.com, an online payment company, which later became PayPal after a merger. PayPal was eventually acquired by eBay for $1.5 billion.
After PayPal, Musk founded SpaceX in 2002 with the goal of reducing space transportation costs and enabling the colonization of Mars. SpaceX has achieved numerous milestones, including the development of the Falcon 1, Falcon 9, and Falcon Heavy rockets, as well as the Dragon spacecraft.
In 2004, Musk joined Tesla Motors (now Tesla, Inc.), an electric vehicle company, as chairman of the board. He later became CEO and has overseen the development of electric vehicles like the Tesla Roadster, Model S, Model X, Model 3, and Model Y. Tesla has also expanded into energy storage and solar energy products.
Musk has also been involved in other ventures, including SolarCity (a solar energy services company), Neuralink (a neurotechnology company focused on developing brain–computer interfaces), and The Boring Company (a tunnel construction company).
Throughout his career, Musk has become known for his ambitious vision for the future, including goals such as colonizing Mars, transitioning the world to sustainable energy, and advancing artificial intelligence.
